Katei| 家庭 (where a family lives)

Katei is a compact urban residence that venerates Japanese culture and prioritises communal living without compromising on privacy. The client wanted to optimise space while using simple, unpretentious materials to arrive at a minimalistic, modern look. To inspire a zen state of mind, Shoji (sliding screens), Tatami (straw mats) and Zabuton (floor cushions) were executed with a contemporary twist. We maximised natural light through whitewashed walls, with accents in black and brick to add drama.
